Mocambique Residence

At the heart of Lisbon, this historic apartment has been reimagined through a dialogue between heritage and contemporary living. The original character remains present, while the spaces have been refined into a fluid sequence of kitchen, dining and living. A cinema screen disappears seamlessly into the ceiling, maintaining the calm of the architecture when not in use. The private rooms introduce a quieter rhythm, from the understated master suite to a sun-filled marquise transformed into a greenhouse, leading naturally into a creative studio.

Precision defines the project. Architectural lines align with deliberate restraint, while details are resolved with equal care, including a kitchen backsplash composed entirely of uncut tiles. The result is a considered balance of history, craftsmanship and contemporary simplicity.

At the heart of the design is a deeply personal narrative. The client’s Greek and Brazilian heritage, her upbringing in the United States, and the rituals, passions, and places that shape her life became the starting point for the interior.

Art, fashion, and travel inform a material palette rich in colour, texture, and memory, while traditional craftsmanship is reinterpreted through bespoke details, from hand-cut to hand-painted tiles. The result is an interior that feels both worldly and intimate — layered with cultural references, yet unmistakably personal.
